Hudson Electronics has revealed the Broadcast-AP, a signature version of the original Broadcast, designed in collaboration with guitarist Ariel Posen.

The pedal is driven by the same class-A preamp circuitry as the stock Broadcast, designed to distort and saturate in a similar way to vintage recording and broadcast consoles. However, for the Broadcast-AP swaps out a few parts to get closer to Ariel’s signature sound. The original’s germanium transistor has been replaced with a silicon transistor, and its triad transformer has been replaced with an OEP transformer – which Hudson Electronics says “saturates and distorts less below 100Hz” compared to the triad transformer.

Altogether, this leads the AP version of the Broadcast to have a bit more thump in the low-end, while still retaining the clear, restrained overdrive sound the original is known for.

One the front of the pedal you will find level and gain pots, alongside a switchable low-cut. Inside the pedal are three trim-pots – one adjusting the maximum gain kicked out by the pedal, and two to fine-tune how the low-cut operates.

The Broadcast-AP comes in a medium-sized enclosure with top-mounted jacks, and takes anything between 9v and 24v power. The latter will give a bit more depth and headroom to the sound.

The Broadcast AP lists for £189, and is available to preorder exclusively through Andertons.co.uk. More information at Hudonelectronicsuk.com
