Caroline Guitar Company has announced the worldwide release of the Megabyte Lo-Fi Delay Computer, a digital delay guitar pedal that offers up some esoteric, glitchy sounds.

The pedal builds on its predecessor, the Kilobyte – adding tap-tempo and increased processing power for a longer delay time. The Megabyte now uses two PT-2399 chips for a total time of 1,200ms.

Caroline founder and chief designer Philippe Herndon elaborated on the implementation of the tap-tempo, explaining: “People have asked us for years to make a tap-tempo delay. I had some curious ideas how we might go about that, but our customers repeatedly confronted me and said they wanted a tap- tempo version of our popular Kilobyte delay. So with our collaborators, John Snyder at Electronic Audio Experiments and Scott McCombs at McCohms Labs, we split the difference.”

The Megabyte, for maximum lo-fi delay fun, also lets you modulate your repeats for a deeper, more colourful delay sound. The pedal incorporates a +21dB preamp, meaning your repeats can be driven hard into the rest of your rig. The secondary footswitch allows you to access Caroline’s trademark “Havoc” function – momentary unlimited feedback for sudden leaps to oscillated chaos.

The pedals are now available via Caroline dealers. The brand also sold a limited number of Megabyte pedals in an advance sale benefitting Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands, during which it raised more than $3,000 for victim assistance and operations. Previous advance sales run by Caroline have benefitted the Central Carolina Community Foundation, Girls Rock Columbia, Mental Illness Recovery Center Inc., and the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.

The Megabyte lists for $249.99. Find out more over at carolineguitar.com.
