Orange Amplification has revealed a new custom hand-built guitar, the OE-1. It has been designed by Orange’s Technical Director Ade Emsley, and hand-constructed to order by Jason Burns of London-based guitar custom shop Blast Cult.
The instrument is constructed with a solid mahogany body and set neck, with a 12-inch radius ebony fretboard and 22 frets. The headstock and body feature a ‘chessboard’ binding. The body style is a take on a single-cut set neck, with a gentle scoop for the cutaway in the lower bout rather than a dramatic curve back around. Orange notes that the guitar pictured above is a prototype, and orders have a build time of four weeks.
The guitar’s standard finish blends a gold top with a dramatic arrow of cream finish, culminating to a point just behind the tailpiece.
Hardware consists of a nickel ABM Kalamazoo, Tune-O-Matic bridge and stop bar tailpiece, with Grover tuners at the other end of things. There are also four custom-turned brass knobs atop the standard Les Paul-style control layout.
For the rest of the electronics, there’s a choice of alnico Staple soapbar P90’s or custom Mojo dogear UK Filtertrons. In both cases, the pickups are joined by a Switchcraft three-way switch.
Emsley said of the instrument: “It’s a blend of engineering, instinct, and my own experience with high-end guitars. I’m very proud of the sound and the feel that the guitar delivers.”
The guitar will be supplied in a Hiscox hard case, and lists for £3,840. Custom finishing is also available. Find out more at orangeamps.com.
